Saffrona ZARRIN: Whole Saffron Threads in Gold and Red

Contents

Saffrona ZARRIN is our whole-thread saffron presentation, extending from the golden base to the deep-red stigma portions.

This form preserves the visible red-and-gold structure and celebrates the handwork involved in selecting Afghan saffron.

Afghan origin and the meaning of ZARRIN

Zarrin (زرّین) means golden in Dari. The name evokes value and natural beauty, while referring directly to the golden section visible in this presentation.

With ZARRIN, Saffrona connects the appearance of the whole threads to Afghan cultural inspiration and the origin of its saffron in Herat.

How does ZARRIN relate to other saffron forms?

In Iranian trading terminology, comparable whole-thread presentations may be called Dasteh or Dokhtar-Pich. ZARRIN is Saffrona’s name for its own selection.

The product combines red stigma portions with the golden base. Its quality depends on the particular harvest, selection, drying and storage, rather than the national origin or trading name alone.

Part of Saffrona’s three-part system

Saffrona developed LAAL, PAYWAND and ZARRIN in Germany as product names inspired by Afghan saffron traditions. Together, they help customers understand the different presentations:

  • LAAL: pure-red cut.
  • PAYWAND: joined-crown cut.
  • ZARRIN: whole-thread presentation in red and gold.

These are Saffrona names, rather than internationally standardised ISO quality grades.

Where can you use ZARRIN?

  • Traditional rice dishes such as Qabuli Palau and Persian rice preparations.
  • Desserts and drinks where visible threads complement the presentation.
  • Recipes that celebrate the appearance of whole saffron threads.

For cooking, bloom a small amount in liquid before adding it to the dish. The amount you need depends on the recipe and the colouring and flavour intensity you prefer.
